Marine PFC Curtis Cota-Robles, a graduate of Gilford Middle High School, and his platoon, were selected to serve in the funeral for former President Ronald Reagan. Cota-Robles, the son of Robert and Gretchen Preston of Gilford, earned an assisgnment as a participant in the procession to the Capitol; ceremonial maneuvers on the Capitol steps; and to stand in attendance of the former President's casket during the 21-gun salute.

Cota-Robles is among a select few marines assigned to the Third Platoon at 8th and I Streets in Washington, D.C. He holds the prestigious position of Ceremonial Marcher, performing full honor funerals at Arlington National Cemetery, and ceremonial parades, and provides homeland security for Washington, D.C.

Cota-Robles joined the United States Marine Corps and underwent recruit training at Parris Island, South Carolina, graduating on November 21, 2003. While still in training, the young recruit was recognized for his exemplary performance and in a special emblem ceremony was promoted to Private First Class, appointed squad leader and awarded the most physically fit of his Platoon. Upon completion of his recruit training he attended advanced infantry training at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

The proud marine is expected home on a short leave this summer for his sister Melissa's wedding. His late father was a decorated Major in the United States Air Force.
