The reconstructed 18th century barn, to be Gilmanton's first year-round library, is ready for the next important phase of construction — "pouring the floor". The floor will include radiant heat as well as essential plumbing and wiring. Once that is completed, interior construction can go forward.

A "Let's Pour the Floor" campaign to raise $50,000 for this phase is well on its way to meeting the goal. The campaign invites donors to purchase square yards of the floor for

$150 each. Donations are tax deductible, and donors will be recognized on a plaque in the completed building.

The barn was acquired from a property in North Hampton, dismantled, and re-erected on the site opposite the elementary school on Route 140 in Gilmanton. The exterior is completed, with roof, siding, windows and weather tight gable ends. Donations from more than 400 residents and friends, plus hundreds of volunteer hours, has made this possible.

"Pouring the floor" is the next essential phase of the project. The Association expects to pour the floor in spring, probably April. To celebrate, a barn dance will be held in early June before the interior is completed.

A square yard of "pour the floor" is the perfect Christmas gift. And it's never to late. Checks can be made out to Gilmanton Year-Round Library Association and sent to the Association at PO Box 413, Gilmanton, NH 03237.

All gifts are tax deductible under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. For more information about the Gilmanton Year-Round Library project or the "pour the floor" campaign, check the web site at www.GYRLA.org or call Stan Bean at 527-1007.
