WOLFEBORO — The Lakes Region Genealogy Interest Group will present a program on using Google for genealogy research on Thursday, Aug. 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the Wolfeboro Public Library. The program is free and open to all.

The presentation will start with video training by Lisa Louise Cooke, owner of Genealogy Gems, a genealogy and family history multi-media company. Genealogists are trained to follow a process, but Google is often used haphazardly. Cooke's tips bring method to the millions of results by using proven techniques. This presentation will provide tools and strategies for successfully navigating Google while researching family history. Google is the most effective way to locate online data whether it is at a university or is a blog started by a newly discovered distant cousin.

Lisa Louise Cooke is the producer and host of the Genealogy Gems Podcast, which brings genealogy news, research strategies and interviews to genealogists in 75 countries around the world. Cooke is the author of multi-media materials including the Genealogy Gems Premium website, the books Turn Your iPad into a Genealogy Powerhouse, How to Find Your Family History in Newspapers, The Genealogist's Google Toolbox, and Genealogy Gems: Ultimate Research Strategies, and the video series Google Earth for Genealogy. Additionally, Cooke is a highly sought-after international genealogy speaker.

The Lakes Region Genealogy Interest Group is free and open to the public for all those with an excitement for genealogy, beginner or professional. Monthly meetings are held the last Thursday evening of the month at the library. For more information, call Cindy Scott at the Wolfeboro Public Library at 569-2428.
