Dr. Robert MacDonald has opened the doors to his new veterinary practice at 522 Union Avenue. Well-known for his laid-back and gentle approach with animals, MacDonald will offer routine exams, dental care, and surgery for dogs and cats. Small pets, such as rabbits and guinea pigs are also welcome.

A New Hampshire native, MacDonald graduated from Kearsage High School and the University of New Hampshire. In 1995, he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Tufts University. His loyal following of pet owners began to accumulate when he worked as a veterinarian at the Lakes Region Veterinary Hospital in Laconia and then subsequently at Pembroke Animal Hospital. More recently, MacDonald was part of the medical team at the N.H. Humane Society in Laconia. While at the Humane Society, MacDonald continued to make routine house calls to many of his patients.

MacDonald's Laconia practice will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the exception of Wednesday, when the office will be closed. Saturdays are reserved so that he, along with his wife, Susan, can continue to make patient house calls.

The MacDonalds have become a familiar sight each spring as they work with non-profit organizations offering rabies clinics that ensure dogs and cats in the local community have the required rabies vaccination. They live with their son, Tristan, on their Meredith farm, surrounded by a menagerie of well-cared-for house pets and farm animals.
