ASHLAND — Local artist Charlie Kuizinas doesn't paint your typical New Hampshire scenes. Best known for his use of vivid colored acrylics, his creative energy is unlike anything seen before. His humorous New England wildlife paintings depict cool and unusual situations: bears boating, loons laughing and moose making s'mores. For the month of July, his works, including a brand new, never before seen, 3x5' piece, can be seen at Fig Tree Gallery in Ashland.
His show will kick off its celebration with an opening on Sunday, July 17. at Fig Tree from 3-6 p.m. The rustic barn gallery is a nice match to his colorful works, which will adorn the walls through the end of August. Also found at Fig Tree, are the works of many other local artists and crafters, ranging from greeting cards to soap to jewelry.
"The historical space is great place to hang my vibrant works," says Kuizinas, who has collaborated with Fig Tree owner Stacey Lucas on other creative projects.
"I'm excited and inspired by this show," said Lucas. "It's the first official show since I opened my doors last summer and I hope to keep bringing more artists to this gallery and community."
Also on tap for July 17 will be free raffles, munchies, giveaways and local music, featuring Jared Steer and Mike McDowell.
"From the art to the music to the food, I strive to stay local," explains Lucas. "I want the gallery to be more than white walls and framed art. I want it to be a community experience, a place to gather, dance, become inspired and just enjoy."
