LACONIA – The Children’s Foundation of the St. Vincent de Paul Society has launched its 20th annual Project Pencil program in support of children and their families who need assistance with back-to-school supplies.
Since 1990, the project has expanded to assist nearly 600 school age children by providing them with backpacks, lunchboxes, and other needed school supplies. School nurses, guidance counselors, and case managers help identify those families who need assistance. Two weeks before the new academic year, students in public, private, and parochial schools, daycare centers, nursery schools, elementary, middle and high schools in Laconia, Gilford, Belmont, Gilmanton and Tilton will receive backpacks containing school essentials.
Families needing assistance may contact their child's school or daycare center for information. All names are kept confidential.
Donations of school supplies and/or money for Project Pencil can be made by stopping by the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store Tuesday — Friday from 10 a.m. — 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. — 3 p.m.
