Town Clerk/Tax Collector Denis Morrissette is again urging resident boat owners to register their vessel with the town rather than the state. The town collects some $80,000 a year in revenue from boat fees, which represents a direct offset against property taxes.
In a letter to boat owners, Morrissette explained that the town does not receive a portion of the fees from registrations with the N.H. Division of Motor Vehicles (NH—DMV). However, when boats are registered with the town, the fees are shared between the town and the state, with a portion deposited in the town's general fund and the balance applied to the N.H. Marine Patrol.
Morrissette said that registrations can be completed either by mail or in person for an agent's fee of $1.50. Boats may also be registered with one of the town's agents — Gator, Inc., Irwin Marine at Mountain View Yacht Club or Silver Sands Marina.
The Town Clerk/Tax Collector's Office is open between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday to Friday and until 7 p.m. on Thursday. Those with questions can call 527-4713 or e-mail dmorrissette@gilfordnh.org.
