Members of the Opechee Garden Club will welcome Joanne Krause as its program presenter at its next meeting, to be held Monday, May 3. Krause is past-president of the N.H. Federation of Garden Clubs and has a passion for the art of Ikebana. She is the recipient of many awards, most recently a Blue Ribbon for her design entry in the 2010 Boston Flower Show. She will share her knowledge as she creates Ikebana designs to be raffled to some very lucky individuals.

Ikebana is the Japanese art of arranging flowers which can be traced back to the sixth century. It is an idealized approach to nature involving discipline, knowledge of the rules and forms, and artistic insight. Branches, flowers leaves or buds or even a single flower are some materials used. The word “Ikebana” comes from the Japanese language, IKE (ikeru) means to arrange and bana (hana) means flowers.

The meeting will be held at the Gilford Community Church, Potter Rd. at noon.

If you would like to be a guest or are interested in becoming a member contact Membership Chairman, Eleanor Swain at 293-6273 or go to www.OpecheeGardenClub.com for more information.
