MEREDITH — A live reading of a traditional radio play is one of the highlights of the Winni Players Community Theatre season. This year, the radio studio will be taken over by ghosts and spirits for a decidedly Halloween-inspired live radio drama, "The Edgar Allan Poe Afterlife Radio Show." The production runs Thursday and Friday, Oct. 29-30, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m.
Favorite Poe stories will be brought to life, thanks to a talented cast of local actors and the beloved live Foley sound effects which bring an added element of interest to the proceedings. In this year’s drama, a tap at a chamber door and the beat of a hideous heart evoke the very best and creepiest of Edgar Allan Poe. When Poe sets out to keep his stories alive from beyond the grave, an otherworldly radio studio proves just the thing. Wandering spirits gather to play the roles in Poe's most classic works, but the grim master of the macabre is a little new to radio — what's all this about commercials?
This year’s radio drama is directed by Hazel Heywood and Margaret Lundberg, longtime participants in the Winni Players radio shows. It will feature a cast of 12 actors, many of whom have performed in past radio plays. Real life radio star, Pat Kelly, will once again feature in the production.
Tickets are available at winnipesaukeeplayhouse.org or by calling 603-279-0333.
