CENTER HARBOR — Squam Lakes Artisans, a Lakes Region gallery and gift emporium renowned for its fine craftspeople, has welcomed jeweler Susan Vachon into its ranks. The gallery’s 20 artists and artisans include painters, sculptors, fabric artists, stained glass artist, wood carvers, and four accomplished jewelers among its membership. In May, Susan Vachon, of Susan Andrea Vachon Designs, was introduced as the gallery’s fourth jeweler. Â
Vachon’s work consists of statement pieces, all one of a kind works of exquisite and unusual wearable art. She has been creating her masterpieces for 20 years, and has exhibited in galleries and shows from New England to Florida. She finds the act of beading to be meditative. The art of using beads to create jewelry for adornment is ancient in all cultures, she says. Mainly self-taught, she has been included in Volume Two of Geometric Bead work, as well as many issues of Bead Works magazine.
When reviewing prospective new gallery members, the works are carefully curated to ensure that each is easily differentiated from any other. The jewelers in the gallery include Melissa Antul, Joe Foster, Pam Miller and Vachon.
The Squam Lakes Artisans gallery and gift emporium provides a broad and colorful cross section of creativity that exists throughout New Hampshire. The works on display include all manner of visual art: paintings, photography, and fine art and crafts fashioned from fabric, glass, wood, and other materials.
Many new and exciting things are happening at the gallery. Visitors are invited to sign up for the new newsletter, which will keep them informed of events, introduce new artists, and provide updates about gallery events and artist activities.
