GILFORD — Pool players from all over New England converged on Winni Bar & Billiards on Dec. 6 located at the Village at Paugus Bay Plaza in Gilford for the Annual “Toys for Tots” Pool Tournament. This event has been going on for over 25 years and is hosted by Ron Boucher’s Tavern Players Magazine.
Playing in different spots throughout New Hampshire, it landed at the Winni Bar & Billiards for the last couple of years. The tournament is an 8-Ball event, and each player's entry fee consists of one or two unwrapped toys. Players often arrive with bags of toys, and patrons contribute as well. In recent years, a group of women on a Holiday Bus tour through the Lakes Region have also stopped by to donate toys.
Along with gathering toys, the event also raises money to help the Greater Lakes Region Children’s Auction, which is coordinated with Amoskeag Beverage Company.
Owners of the Pool Hall Shawn and Wendy Feaster as well as Eric Walsh call it one of their most rewarding events of the year and are looking forward to having it again next year.
At the end of the tournament, the toys are delivered or picked up by RE/MAX Innovative Bayside in Meredith. This is a drop off location for Toys for Tots.
