LACONIA — Powerhouse Theatre Collaborative, the resident theater company of the Colonial Theatre in Laconia, continues its 2026 season sponsored by Lavalley Middleton Building Supply, MVSB, and Grappone Automotive Group with the Tony-award winning play, "Peter and the Starcatcher." This imaginative, storytelling theater-style play tells the origin story of Peter Pan and will delight audiences.

"Peter and the Starcatcher" is based on the book series by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. This play, with music, adaptation is by Rick Elice and Wayne Barker. The theatrical adventure involves orphans, sailors, pirates, lords, mermaids, and mollusks as 15 talented actors take on multiple roles to create this exciting world of swashbuckling as a young girl name Molly helps her father on an important mission concerning the powerful, mysterious substance Starstuff.

The play is directed by Bryan Halperin, assisted by Meg King and music directed by Aidan Lamont. The set is designed by Emmy-award winning designer Melissa Shakun, with costumes by Ro Gavin, lighting and sound design by Tyler Soucy, and props by Johanna Halperin. Jeremy Hart stage manages.

The cast is made up of many familiar faces from Powerhouse productions including Maci Johnson as Boy/Peter, Emma Molloy as Molly, and Joel Iwaskiewicz as the menacing yet comical pirate captain, Black Stache. The cast also includes Garrison Barron, Michael Costa, Jennifer Cote, Deidre Cullen, Phil Dunbridge (Powerhouse debut), Katie Duncan, Jim Gocha, Tess Hodges, Rachel Hunton, David Nelson, Kyle Sidders and Lorienne Valovanie.

Bryan Halperin has directed this play once before with students in grades 5-12 at Inter-Lakes Middle High School.

“It was really fun to work on this show with eager students, but I had always hoped to get a chance to direct it with a talented cast of comedic adults," he said. "It’s so fast paced and full of silly and fun theatrical magic that the show can really be performed at another level with adults, and this cast doesn’t disappoint.”

While the play is geared toward adults and kids elementary school age and up, it is not a “kids” show and parents should note that it is a full-length, two-act play and younger kids should be able to sit comfortably for two hours.

Tickets for the play should only be purchased via coloniallaconia.com.
