Oscar winner Ernest Thompson to speak at Holderness Free Library

HOLDERNESS — Academy Award winner Ernest Thompson will appear at the Holderness Free Library on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 5 p.m. to talk about his debut novel, “The Book of Maps.” An acclaimed author, actor, playwright, filmmaker, and songwriter, Thompson is best known for his Oscar-winning screenplay adaptation of the iconic film “On Golden Pond,” filmed in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region. Thompson will be signing copies of “The Book of Maps,” which will be available for purchase.

“The Book of Maps” tells the story of a complicated father, Brendan Tibbet, a struggling filmmaker, who takes his young son on a cross-country trek from Los Angeles to New Hampshire in the summer of 2002.

“While ‘On Golden Pond’ is a story of forgiveness, ‘The Book of Maps’ is about redemption and learning to become a better person,” Thompson said.

Like all of Thompson’s plays and films, “The Book of Maps” glimmers with what he calls the Three Hs: Heart, Humor and Hope.

“If you liked ‘On Golden Pond,’ you’re going to love ‘The Book of Maps,’” he said.
