MOULTONBOROUGH — Moultonborough Library celebrates October as "Wellness Month," with classes, lectures and displays.
Granite Visiting Nurse Association will present an in-person class, “Every Step Matters: Minimizing Slips, Trips and Falls,” followed by individualized balance screenings, noon to 2 p.m., for the first eight people to register on Oct. 13, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The class will explore common factors that can lead to falls and simple steps that can minimize the risk.
Pressure cooking food has many health benefits. Not only can it save time and energy, but it can also retain more nutrients than other cooking methods and eliminate harmful microorganisms, says dietician Ruth Czewony of the Cleveland Clinic.
Join in for October’s culinary adventures: Instant Pot with Liz Barbour of Creative Feasts. Liz is an online cooking instructor and blogger who will demonstrate the use of the Instant Pot via Zoom. The class will be held on Monday, Oct. 17, at 6 p.m. Register via the link provided in the description of the session on our library calendar.
The Alzheimer’s Association will be presenting “Health Living for your Body and Brain” on Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The library will be co-hosting this virtual event with the Hebron Public Library and Hall Memorial Library in Northfield-Tilton. A Zoom link for registrants to watch from home will be provided, but feel free to come to the library to attend in the company of other Moultonborough patrons. You must register to receive the Zoom link.
To expand on the wellness theme, we will be showcasing our new wellness titles on the main display table. The Library Services librarian, Jo-Ann Roy, has updated the health and wellness non-fiction collection with many new titles, including many health-conscious cookbooks for Instant Pot.
Recreation and relaxation are important elements of a healthy lifestyle, and the library's museum passes can help you achieve those. The library has museum passes you can borrow to give you discounted admission. Brand new this year, passes to the New England Aquarium in Boston and The Children’s Museum of NH in Dover. The library also has passes for Castle in the Clouds, The Libby Museum of Natural History, the Wright Museum of World War II, Squam Lakes Natural Science Center, and the New Hampshire State Parks Pass. Most of these passes are sponsored by the Friends of the Library. To learn more about these passes and reserve your pass online, visit the library catalog and select “Museum Passes” from the Library Services drop-down menu.
For more information on library programs, visit the library website, moultonboroughlibrary.org, and click on the events and programs tab. The library calendar will have all programs listed with descriptions and registration links if required.
