LACONIA — The Belknap County Restorative Justice Department is presenting a program that will be working with in the community, schools, and families. The program is called, CHOOSE LOVE. This is a no cost program that works with families at home, communities, and schools to build a safe and empathic relationship between children, students, teachers, and parents.

The program does this by teaching social and emotional learning skills. This program is currently being taught in all 50 states and Washington DC. Ninety-nine percent of the organizations using this program report seeing an improvement in the behavior of students and an overall improvement of the classroom environment.

This program is going to be presented by its founder, Scarlett Lewis, and Shannon Desilets, of Gov. Sununu’s office. Scarlett lost her son in the Sandy Hook school shooting and will share her story and data that supports the use of this program. The presentation will be on Friday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Belknap County Complex community room #1, 34 County Drive. All are invited to attend as this is a program that could have a significant positive impact on our community, schools, and families.
