MEREDITH—The Meredith Public Library invites the community to explore the rich and often surprising stories found in New Hampshire’s burial grounds with a special program, Buried New Hampshire.

From the Seacoast to the White Mountains and into the Great North Woods, New Hampshire cemeteries range from carefully designed, park-like landscapes to small, private family plots tucked deep in the woods. Some graves stand alone, far from any visible sign of the communities that once existed nearby. Each marker tells a story—of heroism, hardship, tragedy, and everyday life.

This engaging presentation draws on the work of authors and photographers Rick Davidson and Bill Thompson, who spent a year researching, exploring, and documenting cemeteries across the Granite State. Their work uncovers stories of early European settlers, enslaved African Americans, Indigenous people, artists, writers, notable historical figures, and veterans of conflicts spanning from colonial times to the present day.

Attendees will hear fascinating legends, learn about the individuals behind the headstones, and gain a deeper appreciation for the history preserved in these often-overlooked places.

This event will take place on Tuesday, April 21 at 4 p.m. at the Meredith Public Library, 91 Main St.
