Melvin Garage highlighted in music video by Lakes Region artist Dakota Smart

TUFTONBORO — Melvin Garage, in the heart of historic Melvin Village, was recently highlighted in a music video featuring Lakes Region singer-songwriter, Dakota Smart.

The video is directed by Robert Berson, a movie producer, director, writer in the film, TV and music industry for 20 years. Matt Young, owner of Melvin Village Marina did not hesitate when Smart’s team asked to use his Melvin Garage with its nostalgic 1950s Gulf Station for the location for the filming of “Wishing Well,” Smart’s newest song release.

The setting was perfect to depict the storyline of working class struggling to get ahead in a tough economy with lyrics like, “Working to the bone for a few green acres, wishing on the wishing well that we might get there.” Smart’s songs often touch upon his own struggles working hard in a tough industry, but his dedication is paying off as he has garnered a worldwide fan base of thousands of listeners who stream his music.

His career started at age 17, when he toured with the Brooks Young Band, opening for legendary Three Dog Night. By 19, he won Top Solo Performer at HardRock Café Boston followed by seven New England Music Award Nominations for Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Male Performer of the Year. He has recorded with award-winning musicians and producers. His songs have been featured on local radio stations, worldwide media and podcasts. He performs over a hundred shows a year at venues across New England.
