Makers Mill receives grant to expand community volunteer program

WOLFEBORO — Makers Mill has recently received a grant from Volunteer NH to strengthen volunteer recruitment and outreach efforts, helping the makerspace connect more community members with meaningful opportunities to share their time, talents and passions.

While many people know Makers Mill as a place to learn woodworking, sewing, welding, 3D printing, and other creative skills, the organization said its greatest resource is its volunteers and volunteer community.

"Volunteers are the heartbeat of Makers Mill," Executive Director Josh Arnold said. "They don't just help keep the doors open — they create the welcoming, collaborative culture that makes this place special. Whether someone enjoys talking with people, organizing a workspace, or sharing a specialized craft, there's a place for them here."

With support from Volunteer NH, Makers Mill is expanding its volunteer program and inviting community members to become part of a growing network of people who enjoy making a difference while building friendships and learning new skills.

A few of the current volunteer opportunities include:

• Front Desk Volunteers who enjoy welcoming visitors, answering phones, assisting members, helping with data entry, and managing the Makers Mill retail shop
• Facilities and Organization Volunteers to assist with general cleaning, organizing shared spaces, and supporting tool and equipment inventory
• Skilled Makers and Mentors, particularly individuals with experience in leatherworking, woodworking, machining or metal fabrication, digital design, and stained glass, who can help maintain shop spaces, support members, and strengthen these specialty areas

No prior experience with Makers Mill is required for many volunteer roles. Volunteers receive training, meet people from diverse backgrounds, gain new skills, and become part of a creative community dedicated to lifelong learning, craftsmanship, and service.

"Makers Mill is much more than a building filled with tools," Arnold said. "It's a place where people find connection, purpose, and belonging. Volunteering is one of the best ways to experience that community while helping others discover their own creativity."

Volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels are encouraged to inquire. Whether someone can contribute a few hours each month or become involved on a more regular basis, every volunteer helps Makers Mill continue its mission of enriching lives and fostering fulfilling livelihoods through creativity, craftsmanship, and community.
