LACONIA ― Leadership Lakes Region’s class of 2025-26 recently gathered for “Educational Issues Day,” an intensive program exploring the fiscal and social challenges facing New Hampshire’s schools.

The day included an opening panel titled, “Decreasing Enrollment and Increasing Costs,” highlighting how modern education requires a robust infrastructure of mental health and social support to supplement traditional academics.

The other programs included “School Budgets and Funding” a bottom-to-top view of the budget-building process, a marketing education program panel led by students from the Lakes Region; principal Jeremy Hillger highlighting Sandwich Central School as a model for community-integrated education; director Dave Warrender briefed the cohort on how vocational programs fuel the regional workforce before leading a tour of the facility’s technical resources; and a presentation at Lakes Region Community College from Chris Guilmett, executive director, and Karen Switzer, director of the Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation.
