LACONIA — History Happened Here: Discovery Day will be held Saturday, May 11, from 9:45 a.m. to 3 p.m., downtown. This in-person event offers an exploration of Laconia’s history through tours and at venues across downtown.
The Trolley Tour, an event highlight, returns this year with two 60-minute tours, exploring the neighborhoods of the south end of Laconia, downtown, Union Avenue, and Pleasant Street. Attendees will travel to numerous noteworthy locations while a Laconia Historical & Museum Society volunteer provides historical narration, revealing insightful glimpses into the city's past.
The Historic City Walk & Exhibit Tour takes attendees on a 1.5-mile, one-hour journey through downtown's hidden treasures and unique stories. Led by a knowledgeable LHMS member, attendees learn about the people and events that built Laconia. This year, the Laconia Collections Exhibit and other special stops have been added to this tour.
A Railbike History Adventure is a new experience offered this year. Participants will learn about the history along the train tracks that run through Laconia.
A tour bundle is also available, which includes all three.
To top off the event, Defiant Records & Craft Beer opens as "Folsom's Tavern," offering a discount on select cold beverages for participants. Visitors may also encounter a Founding Father or two.
