LACONIA — Kepler Padilla, Grand Knight of Laconia Council 428 of the Knights of Columbus, kept his promise made earlier this year when he announced to the 122nd annual convention of the State Knights of Columbus that council 428 had committed to running the orphanage and senior center in the city of Huasta, Peru.

The program for the home consists of providing study halls for the youth of the village Monday thru Friday 10 noon and English classes each Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. In addition, seniors will have Sunday for social gatherings and lunch with the Sisters of St. Vincent De Paul acting as coordinators.

In addition, a clinic is planned to serve the needy of the village. At present, Mr. Padilla is asking for help in providing each student with a tablet since the center is equipped with WIFI. Each tablet costs $285, US. If anyone is interested in donating a tablet, please email Mr. Padilla at or mail him at Laconia Council 428 Knights of Columbus, P.O. Box 662, Laconia, NH 03247. Donations are tax deductible.
