MEREDITH — Members of the Golden View Health Care Center community joined together to celebrate and thank their nurses during National Nurses Week this year during the week of May 6.
In honor of this year's theme, “Nurses Make the Difference," Golden View employees, residents and family members wrote thank you cards to show gratitude to the nurses that serve Golden View’s residents with dedicated and compassionate care every day. The cards were collected and then distributed all at once during a “card shower” during National Nurses Week.
“Working in health care for the past 27 years, I have had the opportunity to engage with hundreds of nurses,” said Golden View’s administrator Rosemary Simino. “As I pondered this year’s theme and the purpose of nurses’ week, ‘to recognize the contributions nurses make,’ I thought of all the wonderful individuals I have met. Specifically, I thought of the amazing nurses at Golden View.
“Broadly, I thought of the over one million LPNs in our country. After being excluded by the federal government’s proposed staffing mandate for nursing facilities, effectively discounting and marginalizing the contributions to our profession that LPNs make, they continued to persevere and advocate for those in their care by insisting that LPNs be counted in the staffing mandate. The LPNs commitment to those under their care and their advocacy resulted in LPNs being included in the final mandate. This truly is an example of how nurses make a difference in all of our lives.”
