ALTON — Girl Scouts Adelaide Bemis, Isabelle Fencer, and Charlotte Heald from Troop 63776 of Alton were honored by Girls Scouts of the Green and White Mountains as Girl Scout Bronze Award recipients at a Young Women of Distinction Ceremony held in Bedford on Nov. 9. To earn their Bronze Award, which is the highest award a Junior Girl Scout can achieve, they developed a website about local pet care services to make a difference in their community.
Driven by their interest in pets and after noticing neighbors were having a difficult time locating pet sitters, the girls decided to connect community members with local pet care services by creating a website they named Pet Pals NH.
They spent hours over several months working as a team to research pet sitters, pet groomers, trainers, and veterinarians in the area and designing their website.
The Girl Scout Bronze Award project was a rewarding experience for the girls, particularly in how it combined creativity and community service as highlighted by the reflections they shared upon completing the project.
Fencer said, “I liked the creative parts of the project the most. Designing and putting together the website was fun. I like anything that has to do with art and design. I also enjoy helping people.”
Heald shared, “I like how the project helps people and makes it easier for them to find local services by going to one website.”
Bemis added, “I hope this will continue helping my community.”
