GILFORD — Heading into the first full week of the new year, Gilford Public Library has several community events coming up.

Despite being surrounded by nature and all the wonderful curiosities it holds, people tend to keep it at arm’s length. For Pat O’Connor and Marjorie Burke the drive is quite the opposite. Relishing in connecting with nature, reveling in its majesty, and indulging in a little peace and quiet is the drive.

The library will host on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at the Gilford Public Library the program “Spirit in Creation” at 2 p.m. O’Connor and Burke, the co-authors of the book by the same name to elaborate and share their experiences as nature appreciators and the spiritual impact it has on them.

The following day, at 4 p.m., Dr. Joshua Duclos, a volunteer teacher and lecturer who worked in Ukraine during the conflict, will share firsthand accounts of what life is like during wartime.

During end-of-life care all people want to do is focus on the well-being of loved ones. However, if it can be all too easy to become mired in the bureaucracy and legal documentation necessary to keep care in order. On Thursday, Jan. 8 at 11:30 a.m., the library will host Advanced Directives Education. Hosted by Quality Care Home Health and Hospice, they will give attendees the confidence and tools needed to tackle all the varied and oftentimes confusing paperwork.
