GILFORD — The start of the summer ushers in the initial Gilford Community Band summer concert series on Wednesday, July 5. This patriotic concert will start at 7 p.m. at the Weeks Bandstand. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be at the Gilford High School auditorium.
Once again, the legendary Lyvie Beyrent will be the senior conductor. For this concert, the guest conductor will be Sean Meagher, who is the new Gilford Middle School fifth- and sixth-grade music teacher and is replacing another legend, Paul Wernick. Maestro Meagher has taught in the Merrimack, Fall Mountain and Epping School Districts; and is very involved with the NH Music Education Association and the NH Band Directors Association.
The Gilford Historical Association will also be serving its annual strawberry shortcake desserts. Be sure to arrive early to partake of this American Independence Day tradition (a day late).
The band will be performing nine traditional Patriotic selections, including "Stars and Stripes Forever," "Fugue on Yankee Doodle," and a special "Haskell's Rascals," with Adyn Berube, and Jesse and Riley Powers as snare drum soloists.
Bring your blanket or a chair and have an enjoyable evening.
For additional information, Lyvie Beyrent can be contacted at lbeyrent@sau 73.org.
