MEREDITH — Executive Councilor Joe Kenney will address the Meredith Selectboard at its Monday, Oct. 26 meeting at the Meredith Community Center. The meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. Councilor Kenney will discuss efforts to preserve Camp Menotomy, a largely undeveloped camping property on Meredith Neck, as a camp, consistent with the original trustees’ intent.

With 95 forested acres and nearly a mile of shorefront on Lake Winnipesaukee, the future of the Camp Menotomy property is at stake. While the Massachusetts Probate Court has recently ruled that the trustees have assented to the sale of the property, the New Hampshire Charitable Trust unit has not weighed in on its future and can stay the Massachusetts decision. There are camp operators who have expressed interest in continuing camping on the property through a lease agreement. Such an agreement would allow the property to continue operating as a camp, preserve its largely undeveloped waterfront, and help protect the lake from shoreline development.
