WOLFEBORO ― Join the Academy Award-winning writer of “On Golden Pond,” Ernest Thompson, at the Wolfeboro Public Library at 6 p.m on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
He will be reading from his novel, “Out Clause.” Published in May, “Out Clause” is a thought-provoking literary thriller that imagines a secret organization offering unhappy people the chance to disappear and begin completely new lives. As those who vanish leave no trace behind, a determined detective begins investigating the mysterious "no-body" disappearances, uncovering a dangerous network built on second chances, redemption, and the question of whether anyone can truly escape their past.
Audience members will have the opportunity to ask the author about his work and the 30+ fellow Oscar winners and nominees he has known in his long and successful career. There will be plenty of time for Q&A, and attendees can even take photos. Thompson’s books will be available for purchase and signing. This event is co-sponsored by The Country Bookseller.
Thompson’s work has won an Academy Award, two Golden Globes, Writers Guild and Broadway Drama Guild Awards and has been nominated for a Tony, an Emmy, and a British Academy Award. His plays have been seen in theaters around the world. His most enduring, “On Golden Pond,” has been translated into 30 languages and presented in more than 40 countries.
Current projects include an “On Golden Pond” Broadway revival directed by and starring the author; true also of his new one-man play, “Archie Parish’s Parting Words” now on tour; his newest play “Grand Time;” the short film “The Constituent;” and the movie sequel, “Home on Golden Pond.” A prolific lyricist, his song with Carly Simon, “The Father Daughter Dance,” will soon be enjoyed at weddings. With his writer wife Kerrin Thompson, he established Rescind Recidivism, a prison writing program giving inmates a chance to feel creative, as well as human, capable and worthy.
