ASHLAND ― The New Hampshire Department of Transportation will continue work on the bridge carrying U.S. Route 3 and NH Route 25 over the Pemigewasset River and the New Hampshire Railroad in the towns of Ashland and Bridgewater starting March 2, and lasting approximately seven months.
This work is the second phase of the project where the southbound lane will be worked on just like the 2025 season. Rehabilitation work will include partial and full depth bridge deck replacement, expansion joint replacements, bridge rail replacement, and final paving of the roadway approaches.
This work will require full-time closures of the southbound lane, leaving a 10-foot by six-inch wide travel lane northbound. Alternating traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic signals.
Motorist are advised to be aware of the one lane, narrow bridge and follow the posted signs while travelling through the work zone. Closure of the southbound lane of the bridge is occurring sooner than anticipated due to a failing bridge expansion joint and an unforeseen floor beam repair that require immediate attention.
Road users are also encouraged to sign up for free, real-time construction and traffic related messages at newengland511.org.
J.P. Sicard, Inc. of Barton, Vermont, is the general contractor for the $12.9 million project, which is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2026.
