BELMONT — The Belmont Public Library will host an evening with author Claire Hebert-Dow on Tuesday, May 6, at 6:30 p.m. Hebert-Dow will discuss her deeply personal book, “Saving Mama,” which chronicles her journey growing up in a traditional Catholic family in the early 1950s and the unconventional path she took to reclaim her independence and identity.

With no support from family or friends, Hebert-Dow trusted the advice of a stranger and defied societal expectations for her gender and skillset. Her story resonates with anyone who has ever felt called to walk a different path — especially those whose lives have been touched by the silent, soulful companionship of a cat or dog.

Proceeds from sales of “Saving Mama” are dedicated to a meaningful cause: bringing comfort dogs into police and fire departments. The Belmont Fire Department is the first recipient of this initiative and the first firehouse in New Hampshire to have a comfort dog funded by book sales.
