LACONIA — Altrusa International of Laconia has resumed their Memory Book project at Belknap County Nursing Home. The Memory Books were well received when started, but the pandemic came, and that ended the project for the time being.

The Nursing Home was closed to visitors and has, now, reopened to everyone. Altrusa members are so happy to begin visiting again and recently created a Memory Book for John Richardson. John, a 98-year-old resident at the nursing home, was happy with his book which included pictures of him, his family, friends, fellow Lakes Region Chordsmen members and loved ones, as well as newspaper clippings from his career as an insurance salesman.

Altrusa hopes to continue this project for years to come. The books allow Altrusans to meet nursing home residents, get to know them a little bit and create a chronicle of their life. But the book is only as good as the information provided by the family and friends of the resident. The more information, the better the Memory Books, and the better the experience for the resident.

The Memory Book is the property of the resident and is handed down to the family. Altrusa hopes the book will be a cherished memento.

Altrusa is an international organization of volunteers who devote their time and efforts to improve their communities. Members combine their talents to develop and finance service projects, meeting specific needs and improving the quality of life for area residents.
