FRANKLIN — The Franklin Business and Professional Women’s Club named Kandyce Tucker as the 54th recipient of the Virginia Allen Young Careerist Award this month.
Kandyce is originally from the Franklin area and currently holds the position as the director of the Franklin Mayor’s Drug Task Force, a position she has held since 2019. Her duties include providing drug and alcohol prevention activities and initiatives for the Franklin Community. She plans community events to foster a sense of community among Franklin’s youth and families, which include Drug Take Back Day, After Prom Chem-Free Party, Fall Fest 5K, Drug Task Force Annual Event, as well as organizing other various educational presentations.
In her spare time, Kandyce enjoys being a mom to her dog and cat; spending time in the mountains or beaches of NH; shopping; crafting, and planning events. She is very close with her family, loves penguins, and enjoys the fall season most of all.
Kandyce holds a B.S. in recreational management and policy: program and event management from UNH and currently pursuing her M.A. in communication: new media and marketing from SNHU. She will be the first in her family to have a master’s degree.
Professional awards include Prevention Coalition Leader 2020 and Partnership for Public Health Community Collaboration Award in 2019. Kandyce also serves on various boards relating to the health of the area’s youth and their families.
One of Kandyce’s long term goals is to grow the FMDTF into a larger organization that can hire additional employees and make effective change in the Franklin community, in partnership and collaboration with other organizations.
Kandyce will compete against other New England Young Careerists in a regional competition where judges will select a winner based on each candidate’s 4-minute speech, a personal interview and a biographical statement outlining his/her accomplishments. There is a monetary prize for the Young Careerist winner at each level.
