To The Daily Sun,

I was interested in the article, “‘History should remain:’ Abenaki leaders say Hannah Duston statue should stay,” which appeared in The Laconia Daily Sun on Dec. 24.

For background on the scalping of Colonials and Native Americans in the late 1600s and early 1770s, I recommend the book, "The Scalphunters: Abenaki Ambush at Lovewell Pond, 1725,” (Branden Books, 2002) which is available at libraries and from online booksellers. One of the authors, Raymond Potvin, spoke to the Laconia Historical and Museum Society about the book, back in 2002.
