To The Daily Sun,
In the wake of being ordered to pay $355 million for committing fraud, Donald Trump stated, “There was no fraud. The banks all got their money 100%.” Let’s take each of those in turn.
No fraud? C’mon. In the simplest case, he routinely claimed in bank documents that his Trump Tower penthouse was 30,000 square feet, even though it’s less than 11,000 square feet, a fact he acknowledged in a 1994 filing. There’s no way this real estate mogul simply made a mistake, and this was going on long before his recent memory problems. Clearly he committed fraud, and there are numerous other examples.
The banks got all their money. True. 100%? Well, if he’d accurately reported the value of his properties, he would have had to pay a higher interest rate, and the banks would have gotten much more money. This was not a victimless crime.
Despite Trump’s protestations, this was not a witch hunt. It was a court case finally holding him to account for decades of fraud. It shows he is a man who cannot be trusted, a man who is only concerned about one thing: himself.
