Tom Washington: Not supporting Mike Bordes for reelection as state rep

While Mike Bordes has at times claimed to be bipartisan, his record and conduct show he is anything but. His tenure as mayor started with the highly partisan action of removing his political adversaries from a city committee after Bordes failed to dismantle the committee altogether.

When constituents take issue with Mike Bordes' conduct, he does not listen with an open mind and instead pivots to attacks of the people he claims to represent. We all saw his defensive, angry letter where he insulted and dismissed anyone who took issue with his attire during the Memorial Day event. He has attacked constituents who disagree with him as highly partisan and refused to engage with their concerns. Shockingly, in a recent letter to this paper, he went so far as to claim that people who disagreed with his decision to expand the surveillance state were disrespecting 9/11 somehow. In reality, it was Mike Bordes who disrespected 9/11 by dragging it into a completely unrelated pet issue and attempting to use it to suppress dissent. He owes the community an apology for that.

Since Mike Bordes has been in the Statehouse, our costs have gone up, the budget has become unbalanced, Laconia's schools are facing a funding shortfall, and the health of our precious lakes have declined. Mike Bordes drove up our deficit by cutting taxes for the rich and then spent our tax dollars to pay for private school for rich kids. Laconia deserves a representative who will actually solve our problems, not make them worse. We deserve a representative who will represent all of their constituents, not just their friends and political allies.

Sadly, Mike Bordes is not that person. He is not worthy of reelection.
