To The Daily Sun,

In response to Steve Earle's global warming rant in the Dec. 30 edition, I have to say that he makes me think of a grumpy old goat. To me, at 79, global warming is real.

Thirty-five years ago, my wife, from years of experience, used to be able to tell me when to tap maple trees for sap to make maple syrup. It was always the first week in February and we always had plenty of freezing nights and warm days. Today, the weather patterns have changed considerably, and it got to the point where I felt making maple syrup was more of a pain in the butt because sap runs are inconsistent. Today, most syrup makers run tubing and suck the sap out of the trees with machinery so they no longer deal with buckets.

Mr. Earle would have a hard time convincing me that global warming isn't real, because sap runs in the springtime are all over the place. While I'm at it, I have never believed that massive voting fraud is real and undermining the confidence in our system of elections is detrimental to this country. I think John F. Kennedy beat Richard Nixon by only like 7,000 votes, and there wasn't a big scandal over it. If you win you win, if you lose you lose, and that's it.
