To The Daily Sun,

I am writing in response to one of the letters posted in The Daily Sun on Thursday, Dec. 19, where the person found it strange that a person could have a crucifix in front of their house next to a Donald Trump sign. Yes, it is true that Trump has done some horrible things, but Christ came to save all men. Jesus said, "For I have come to call sinners, not the just" (Matthew 9:13b). Again, he says, "But if you do not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive you your offenses" (Matthew 6:15). Jesus also said, "But I say to you, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who persecute and calumniate you" (Matthew 5:44). In Chapter 7 of Matthew, Jesus says, "Do not judge lest you be judged. For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged; ... Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam from thy own eye, and then thou wilt see clearly to cast out the speck from thy brother's eye" (Matthew 7:1-2, 5). Jesus also forgave his persecutors while he was hanging on a cross, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing" (Luke 23:34). How many of us would forgive our persecutors? Lastly, as Saint Paul says, "All have sinned and have need of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). In other words, we have all offended God from the least of us to those who think themselves above everyone else and so we all need God's mercy.
