To The Daily Sun,

I am Steve Felton, and I am running for a three-year term for the Ashland Selectboard and wanted to provide some information on who I am and why I am running in hopes of earning residents' votes on March 10.

Since 2007 I have had multiple town positions to include:

Ashland Selectboard for 3 years (2014-17)

Ashland Budget Committee

Capital Improvement Program Committee

Economic Development Committee

Ashland School Board (current)

I have decided to run for Selectboard again because I am now retired from full-time work and want to dedicate more of my time to help ensure our town prospers, remains affordable, and strengthen our community identity.

My core beliefs and goals include:

  • Understand who we are and what we want to be as a community
  • Ensure we have a strategy and plan to ensure affordability and prosperity
  • Ensure we have a measurable process at all levels to monitor success
  • Keep the community informed
  • Have all community stakeholders work together for our goals
  • Expand our property tax base to help minimize individual property tax

During my previous tenure on the Budget Committee and Selectboard, we established capital reserve funds and a Capital Improvement Program Committee to help manage and plan for long term needs of the town and be better prepared to pursue grant monies from federal, state, and regional sources.

My work history includes working as a division manager for Associated Grocers of New England, as well as for 7-Eleven. I also owned and ran my own business and worked in commercial real estate.

I believe I can help contribute to the town and community.
