To The Daily Sun,
Belknap County residents (and visitors), here is an urgent quiz for you.
— Do you like skiing and snowboarding at Gunstock Recreation Area?
— Have you or your child benefitted from and enjoyed the Adaptive Ski Program?
— Do you enjoy the New Years' fireworks?
— Have you tried that zip line? WOW!
— How about mountain-top yoga?
— Are you on a Nastar racing ski team?
— Do you hike all over that mountain?
— Do you run up to the summit?
— Do you cross-country ski on the trails, trail run, ski-jor, walk the wetlands walk? Camp there?
— Did you get married or engaged at the summit?
— Did you ever work at Gunstock to support your family, pay for school, have mad money?
— Does your business benefit from the activity at Gunstock? Restaurants, equipment sales, food/groceries, gas, etc?
Well, it may go away tomorrow night or in the next year or two. Really.
Why? Because six (just six) of our 15 state reps haven’t met a government anything they will support. Its an ideology thing. They claim frugality and first cut budgets to the point of bleeding and then claim they are ineffective so must be done away with or transferred to the private sector. We have that happening here now. They claim there is magical money to be made and squeezed from this abomination that is what they see as a (semi)government-run lemon. The rest of us are just crazy!
There is one thing you can do today: call the following people AND/OR attend the meeting this week, Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the county complex in Laconia and tell them that you do not agree with privatizing Gunstock and that you want them to vote to support the temporary loan to Gunstock, (this has been unanimously agreed to every year since 1959, until last year, when one state rep voted not to allow the loan. This year, six of 15 of our state reps voted against allowing the loan.)
Please call or visit at the meeting:
Barbara Comtois (776-8989, email barbara.comtois@leg.state.nh.us),

John Plumer (527-3444)

Thank you and see you at the meeting.

It's not just about Gunstock, it is about the restaurants, stores, hotels etc that all benefit from the resources that we have in the Lakes Region. Gunstock brings in visitors year round and should be supported.
