To The Daily Sun,

I am deeply disappointed by the city council’s recent decision to appoint someone who has lived here only a short time over three other candidates with deep roots in our city and long records of working alongside its residents.

Many people devote considerable time and energy to making our community a better place. When qualified candidates with longstanding community involvement are overlooked, it raises legitimate questions about how these decisions are made and which qualities the council values.

To many residents, this decision creates the impression that the council may be more comfortable preserving the status quo than welcoming fresh perspectives. Our city is strongest when its leaders encourage new ideas and give qualified, community-minded residents a fair opportunity to serve.

I hope council members will reflect on the message this decision sends to those who volunteer, participate, and remain committed to our city. The public deserves an open and transparent appointment process — one that clearly prioritizes qualifications, community commitment, and the best interests of our residents.
