Linda Terwilliger: Zelenskyy should ask for nothing less than fair, just, lasting ceasefire

We should all wonder if Donald Trump and JD Vance really think they can dupe us into believing Vladimir Putin’s false propaganda about Ukraine. Repeating Putin’s vicious lies will never change the facts. Putin is a brutal dictator who launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine three years ago without any provocation.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy is right. The entire world should distrust Putin. Zelenskyy should ask for nothing less than a fair, just and lasting ceasefire in Ukraine with a solid security guarantee from the United States and Europe.

Recently, Trump and Vance ambushed Zelenskyy because the leaders of democratic countries around the world respect him and support his steadfast defense of Ukraine against the cruel aggression of a power-hungry despot. Zelenskyy’s brave refusal to submit meekly to their unprovoked attack simply infuriated them.

Quite frankly, Trump and Vance were attempting to give the White House a flimsy excuse for siding with Russia against long-time democratic allies of the United States. Trump is playing a dangerous game. He should step up to protect our national security by joining the European leaders who have rallied behind Zelenskyy and Ukraine and strongly condemning Putin’s aggression.

Zelenskyy has courageously held off Russia’s military advances. while diligently soliciting and getting help from the United States and our European allies. He has been lavish in his thanks to everyone. He has never flinched from valiantly fighting a war that few assumed he could win. Zelenskyy continues to stand up for himself and the Ukrainian people who have sacrificed everything to defend their country and home.

Generations of American patriots have fought hard for the same democratic freedoms that President Zelenskyy and his countrymen are risking their lives every day to defend. As Americans, we must unite behind their cause to protect democracy and ensure a sustainable end to Putin’s aggression.
