To The Daily Sun,
Many New Hampshire residents may not realize that the New Hampshire Electric Cooperative is member-owned and locally governed. That means everyone who receives their electricity from NHEC is also a member, with a voice and a vote in who leads the cooperative and shapes its direction. NHEC serves more than 85,000 members across 118 towns in New Hampshire.
Each year, members have the opportunity to vote in board of directors elections. Ballots are mailed beginning in mid-May, with voting open through June 10. This is an important opportunity to participate in decisions that impact energy costs, reliability, and the future of our local energy system.
I’m Laurel Boivin, and I’m running for the NHEC Board of Directors because I believe in the power of member voice and the importance of thoughtful, forward-looking leadership.
For over 30 years, I’ve worked at the intersection of energy, environmental stewardship, and community across the electric utility industry, state government, and with businesses, organizations, and municipalities. I’ve supported reliability efforts, infrastructure projects, outage response, and community engagement across New Hampshire, helping people navigate complex energy decisions.
As both a cooperative member and a candidate, I believe we have an opportunity to take a more proactive approach to delivering affordable, reliable, and local energy solutions while strengthening communication and trust with the members we serve.
Readers' voices matter. Their vote shapes the future of our cooperative, and I would be honored to earn a vote.
Please watch for a ballot in the mail, take time to vote, and make voices heard in this important election.
Laurel Boivin
