To The Daily Sun,

I'd like to piggyback on the articles that were written about the City of Laconia and its decision to no longer maintain roads that have been serviced for over 50 years. The City of Laconia recently sent an article stating false statements to the Union Leader such as "Any work done by the city was done only upon request." This is totally false. Road crews were here every time it rained, or when we had snow removal, and road damage — no one had to "request" any maintenance. They also stated that maintenance was done "periodically." This is also false. It is beyond comprehension that the City of Laconia could put all the good taxpaying people that live on these roads (Plantation and Colonial) some retired (including us) who are on a fixed income — at risk of losing access to their homes due to unmaintained roads. The city wants to push the "estimated" cost of more than $100,000 per home for upgrades to a road that they have maintained for over 50 years onto us.

When we purchased our home in 2013, there was no mention of a "private" road. We inquired at the city clerk's office and were reassured this road was well maintained by the city and it was not a private road. There were no parking signs along the roads, up until one day the city decided to quietly remove them. Since June 2, they no longer maintain our roads. We have runoff issues and ruts that hinder the road and ability to travel on it. Be aware taxpayers, they are coming your way.

We are hardworking, taxpaying citizens of Laconia. It's appalling how the city council, including the mayor, treat their law abiding citizens. Community left in dismay.

On Bay Street where the fire was it’s been 2 1/2 years and the sidewalk is not fixed. The people that purchased that property have tied fixing in the sidewalk as part of their repairs, not the cities. The sidewalk hasn’t been able to accommodate walkers for 2 1/2 years, And God forbid if you had a wheelchair or baby stroller, Funny now that they’re working on the property, they have a sidewalk closed, signed up, But for 2 1/2 years nothing the city doesn’t wanna do anything unless it has something to do with the colonial or the state property. That’s where they’re interest lie.
