John Demakowski: Immigration enforcement is a fed responsibility, no doubt

Minnesota is filing a lawsuit against the Trump Administration to get information on the shootings by the ICE agents of individuals who were part of an organized effort to thwart ICE operations in Minnesota. These people would network together to find, identify, follow, and harass ICE agents, hinder ICE operations, and interfere with their apprehension of illegal immigrants, which is their job. These people are not peaceful protesters; they are those actively interfering with federal law enforcement officers doing their jobs. Many of Minnesota's government officials have encouraged them to do so.

Without controversy, immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility. According to the U.S. Constitution, federal law takes precedence over conflicting state laws. This is a no-brainer. Those who interfere with federal law enforcement in this way are in rebellion against the federal government. They put their lives at risk by interfering with federal law enforcement. Those who would encourage these in this behavior and appeal to their self-righteousness so that they would meddle in an affair that is not theirs bear some responsibility. To have empathy for those being deported is from God. Yet these people broke the law by entering our country illegally. In this case, as sad as it is, their chickens are coming home to roost. Those who would make the judgment call that ICE is bad and illegal immigrants are good and act on it seems not to be compassionate but have a savior complex.

We have seen Minnesota's kind of justice. That the federal government should send these agents into such a hostile environment and then, when something happens, turn them over to the ravenous wolves in Minnesota would be unconscionable.
