To The Daily Sun,

My name is James “Jim” McIntire, and I am writing to formally announce my candidacy for the vacant selectboard seat in the Town of Gilford.

I am a long-time member of this community and a proud graduate of Gilford High School, class of 1987. In 2002, my wife Martha and I built our home in Gilford, where we raised our family and sent our two children through the Gilford school system. Gilford has always been more than just a place to live  — it is our home, and the community we care deeply about.

I have spent most of my career in public service, serving as a police officer, as Chief of Police in Bristol, and currently as Chief Deputy of the Belknap County Sheriff’s Office. Through this experience, I have learned the importance of fiscal responsibility, accountability, and leadership — qualities I believe are essential for effective local government.

I am concerned that property assessments are outpacing average household incomes, resulting in residents being taxed on unrealized property values. For some, this has created financial pressure that threatens their ability to remain in the town they love. At the same time, Gilford’s growing number of employees, vehicles, facilities, and properties have increased our overall debt service.

If elected, I will carefully review proposed projects and major expenditures, ask thoughtful questions, and listen respectfully to all perspectives. I bring an open mind, conservative values, and a commitment to being a steady voice of reason. Every decision I make will be guided by what I believe is in the best interest of the Gilford community, now and in the future.

I respectfully ask for readers' trust, their consideration, and their vote on March 10.

James “Jim” McIntire
