To The Daily Sun,
I continue to be amazed by the politically correct who refuse to be outraged by the slaughters committed by Islamists while at the same time decrying those done by others. What is it they don't understand about the savagery and cruelty involved here? Is it because the vast majority of victims are not Americans, currently? I cannot believe that the pain, suffering, grief and sorrow are any the less in any other culture than it would be to you or me. Or is it just politics?
There were a couple of comments on letters in past papers I'd like to comment on. Richard Davis, not letting me getting away with a couple things, challenges first my contention that political correctness is a major if not the major factor for the increase in anti-Semitism here in America. However, he doesn't offer any other explanation of his own. If he or others have another idea, I'm listening.
Second, I try to keep my letters a reasonable length but my outrage at the Easter Sunday massacre in Sri Lanka got me worked up a bit, as per his comment about that, but then about my reference to the establishment of Israel in 1948, he comments about the complicated history there. (Also note James Veverka made reference to the long history of anti-Semitism also). So, okay, my letter was too long, but I didn't provide enough history is what I interpret. But be fair, it was a letter, not a book.
But now I feel compelled to provide a little more background on that event. Mr. Davis makes the claim that the indigenous Arabs were expelled, which is only partly true. Some were later, but at the time of the "British Mandate" preparing to leave, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Muhammad Amin at-Husayni, who played a key role in anti-Zionism and closely allied himself with the Nazi regime in Germany during the war, was encouraging Arabs to leave in order to make way for the Arab armies to "drive the Jews into the sea". Great numbers of Arabs did so and thus were not welcomed back after the fighting was done. Can you blame the Israelis?
Lots more, but trying to keep the length in mind.
One last thing. Peter Wirth tells readers that Don Ewing, "is all about keeping people out of America." That's a flat out lie. I know Don and he favors legal immigration 100 percent. He, like myself, is opposed to illegal immigration. Mr. Wirth owes an apology to Don and readers.
