To The Daily Sun,
I’m a Belmont homeowner, and like many of my neighbors, I’m watching the cost of simply living here climb higher. Property taxes are not an abstract political issue. They affect whether seniors can stay in their homes, whether young families can afford to buy one, and whether longtime residents can continue to call Belmont home.
That’s why property-tax relief needs to be more than a campaign slogan.
Liz4Belmont has made reducing New Hampshire’s dependence on local property taxes a central priority. That means looking seriously at the state’s responsibility to fund education and provide municipal support — because Belmont taxpayers should not continually be asked to make up the difference.
But taxes don’t exist in a vacuum.
Housing affordability, school funding, municipal services, and our local economy are all connected. We need policies that help people afford to live here without sacrificing the schools, roads, public safety, and services that make Belmont a community.
We also need to support small businesses and responsible economic development. A stronger local economy creates opportunity and helps build a healthier tax base without simply asking homeowners to pay more.
As a homeowner, I want representatives who will listen, show up, ask hard questions, and fight for practical solutions — not simply pass the problem down to towns.
Belmont deserves a real conversation about how we lower the property-tax burden while protecting the services our neighbors depend on.
Listen. Show up. Deliver.
That’s the standard I believe we should expect from anyone asking to represent Belmont in Concord, which is why I choose Liz4Belmont.
