According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Donald Trump administration tried five times to unlawfully block clean energy offshore wind projects in court, losing all five times (taxpayer money is spent on frivolous lawsuits). The administration's new strategy handed TotalEnergies nearly $1 billion (yes, with a b) of our tax dollars to cancel two offshore wind leases on the east coast in exchange for TotalEnergies' agreement to invest in oil and gas instead. Unfortunately, they weren't done yet. They spent nearly another $1 billion to other energy companies on the west coast to cancel two more offshore wind leases.
Nearly $2 billion of tax dollars for which we get nothing. If that were split between each of the 50 states, New Hampshire would get $20 million. Just think what benefits that would have here.
It was taxpayer money.
