To The Daily Sun,

I’ve known Amber Schaefer since she was in school with my children and even then she was a shining light. Like many, she faced adversity in her early years and not only survived but has thrived.

She represents us all because she’s one of us, a homeowner and active participant in the community, someone raising a family where her heart is, a dedicated healthcare worker who’ll bring an insider’s knowledge of what we’re facing as continuing cuts threaten available options for everyone, the most in need in particular.

She represents us with her irrepressible energy and because she’s capable of rising above the divisive anger and insults so prevalent in our country. Amber exudes the calm confidence and nonpartisanship we could use in this complicated time.

This is the most important election of our lives. On the national level, unless readers are content with crippling gas prices, home heating costs and don’t mind the low-class sniping and lying, but, even more profoundly, in the sense that all politics is local, it’s essential that we have representatives in Concord protecting, without malice and self-interest, our small town concerns.

One of the reasons I shot "On Golden Pond" in the Lakes Region — our production offices were in Center Harbor — in addition to the spectacular scenery, was because of the people, most so welcoming and pleased to be part of something unexpected and timeless. Amber Schaefer represents me in my work, much of it local, and everyone in theirs, whatever that work is. She knows how important her constituents’ lives are and she won’t be dissuaded from her generous and selfless mission.

Amber’s the very definition of concern and commitment and, yes, patriotism. She represents us all.
