To The Daily Sun,
I really intended to stay silent on the Florida shootings, however after reading so many other people’s opinions, and watching the perpetual dance around the real problem, I figure I’ll weigh in:
I find it ironic and disingenuous to see that the very same people who tell us we must not judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few, judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few.
The cold-blooded murder of so many innocent people by one is appalling. But just what type of gun law would have stopped him from his premeditated killing spree? There is already a law prohibiting possession a gun within 1,000 feet of a school. What good has it done?
Doesn’t it stand to reason that with the killer’s mindset, if a gun wasn’t available to him, a bomb or two would suffice? He was obviously researching the instructions how to make one on line. The Boston Marathon bombings showed just how easy it was to build, and how deadly one could be.
Doesn’t it make you angry that just one mistake (if) made by police in handling him could actually set him free; or that he will be given endless appeals if he is found guilty? We must protect his constitutional rights, though he certainly didn’t care about those of his victims.
And most importantly, are you not curious as to what caused him (and so many others) to feel the need to slaughter his victims? The gun was just his tool; what went wrong in his life/his head? Who and what can we blame for making him so insensitive and the origin of such hatred within him; a poor upbringing, bullies, violent video games and movies?
I AM curious as to what makes someone do what he did. Until that answer is found and resolved, the killing will likely continue.
Fear not the gun; fear the one who holds it.
