To the Daily Sun,
Sens. Maggie Hassan and Jeanne Shaheen and five other Democrat Senators deserve recognition for finally doing the right thing and joining Republican senators to reopen the government.
Although they voted with other Democrat senators a dozen times to keep the government shutdown, they abandoned the nearly 85% of Democrat Senators who wanted to continue the pain on government employees who are working without pay, poor people without food stamps, government contractors and their employees, air travelers, and others.
Sadly, most other Democrats, in Congress, the media, and other official positions, are irate at, and threaten the careers of, these few Democrat Senators who heard the suffering people and voted to help them.
Note that senators and congressmen are paid during the shutdown as are Democrat officials, leaders, and media who don‘t work for the federal government. They didn’t suffer but were willing to make others, typically much poorer people, suffer.
Most elected congressmen and senators oppose government shutdowns. But, with their political careers threatened by far left Democrats, Democrat senators demanded passage of $1,500,000,000,000 in new funding for far left programs to avert a shutdown. Their demands included: health care for illegal aliens and for healthy, working-age Americans who refuse to work or volunteer at least 20 hours per week; extension of and making permanent the temporary Obamacare subsidies that Democrats previously scheduled to expire this year; and promotion of LGBTQ, climate change, and feminism in foreign countries. These all have been or could be considered and resolved democratically in normal Congressional actions, but Democrats held suffering Americans hostage to force acceptance of their demands.
Most Democrat senators, congressmen, leaders, and media happily inflicted, and wanted to continue inflicting, pain on millions of Americans to compel funding and implementation of programs that most Americans reject.
